Our Vision
Sierra Shared Spaces is the natural evolution of the vision and experiences of Kernville Cowork over the past 5 years. We will:
- Create physical shared environments for connection, collaboration, and productivity.
- Provide a place, space, and opportunities for connection to other organizations that are supporting our community.
- Become the hub, creation point, and incubator for innovation and the creation of new ventures in our economic region.
- Create and support meaningful and sustainable career paths within our community.
- Expand our community and our impact both within the Kern River Valley and to other unique rural communities.
Our Values
Think Big and Disrupt
We do not accept the premise of “this is how we do things”. We dream bigger than what has been seen before, and we find creative ways of driving towards our ambitious goals.
Identity Matters
The ability of a community to thrive is largely driven by whether the community believes it is capable of thriving. We transform the narrative of our communities to one that includes innovation, creation, and growth.
Connection Matters
We are the antidote to isolation. We prioritize relationships above business, collaboration above competition, and personal connection above ego. Daily connection encourages spontaneity and serendipity.
Collaboration
We accomplish more when we work together and support each other. We invite partnerships with outside organizations, investing in their success and elevating their status in our community. In providing solutions for our community, we prefer to support other organizations that can fill needs over duplicating their offerings. We are happy to be the physical nexus for these organizations to reach the communities in which we operate.
Sustainability
Sustainability and longevity of our vision will depend on our ability to independently fund our ongoing operations. Core operations and personnel should be fully funded by our core activities and memberships. We maximize our effectiveness through partnerships. Donations and grants will be critical to our success, but should be prioritized towards expanding our impact and improving accessibility.
Continuous Learning
We constantly learn more about our community, our customers, and our solutions. We continuously adapt our solutions to incorporate these learnings.
Access
We are accessible and welcoming to all members of our community, regardless of socioeconomic status or background. We aggressively seek out and remove barriers to participation.
So what’s next?
Sierra Shared Spaces will take over the operations of Kernville Cowork, and immediately get to work expanding our impact in the Kern River Valley and other rural communities. We’ll invest heavily in building career opportunities in our community, and in building inclusive community. We’ll build out our vision and create something bigger than what our region thought was possible.

Sierra Shared Spaces is a California Public Benefit Nonprofit. We have partnered with the Kern Community Foundation to act as our fiscal sponsor while we’re working towards receiving 501(c)(3) status.
